Abstract

In Lithuania, like in many other European countries, one of demographic development features is the aging of inhabitants. This aging process causes various body transformations, changes of personality, habits and abilities to do certain things. Sleeping disorders are one of the most common health problems in the elderly. But the most important thing is for people to form the sense and understanding of importance to be healthy, able to do certain things and adapt to changing social environment. The aim of this study is to compare the sleep problems of the eldery. Researh group included 307 people of age 60 and older people (approximately 69,7 years old). To do the research a special written questionnaire was used. The research showed, that in the eldery women are the ones who experience more sleeping disorders and have not such a high sleep quality. 60-74 years old people are more oriented in high sleeping quality than 75years and older. Employed people face less sleeping disorders than unemployed ones. The lowest sleeping quality is most common to people who live alone or with their relitaves, the highest sleeping quality is most common to people who live with their life partners. Emotional state of elderly people influances the quality of their sleep. People, who do not have any stress or depression signs, experience best sleep and people who do stress or have depression, often experience sleeping disorders.
