Abstract

Research aim was to establish peculiarities of well-being, activity, mood and optimism of sporting and non-sporting students. Research hypothesis was that sports activities would be beneficial to adolescents’ sense of coherence and optimism expression. The participants of the study were 342 sporting and non-sporting students of middle school age (172 females and 170 males). Among them were 178 sporting students and 164 non-sporting students. The survey included two measures: one for evaluation of sense of coherence, the other – for the establishment of the optimism expression. Student’s t test and χ² test were used to verify the hypotheses of mathematical statistics. The data in the research article show statistically significant differences (p<0.05) between adolescents engaged in sport and not engaged in sport in all investigated parameters. It was established that indices of sense of coherence and optimism for sporting students were higher compared to non-sporting students.
