Abstract
Summary
The aim of the study: To determine the efficacy of an in-office desensitizing paste, containing 8% arginine and calcium carbonate (Sensitive Pro-Relief, Colgate-Palmolive Co) relative to that of a commercially-available pumice prophylaxis paste in reducing dentin hypersensitivity after a full mouth disinfection procedure.
Method: The clinical study covered by the present paper was conducted at Institute of Odontology, Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University. Air blast hypersensitivity stimuli score using Schiff Cold Air Sensitivity Scale was used before and after the full mouth disinfection procedure.
Results: The clinical study demonstrated that the new desensitizing paste, containing 8% arginine and calcium carbonate, provided a significant reduction (p < 0,05) in dentin hypersensitivity.
Conclusions: A new in-office desensitizing paste, containing 8% arginine and calcium carbonate (Sensitive Pro-Relief, Colgate-Palmolive Co) provides significantly great hypersensitivity relief (p < 0,05) compared to a commercially available pumice prophylaxis paste (Nupro pumice prophylaxis paste, Dentsply professional).
