Abstract

Nursing informatics is an advanced tool for nursing practice and integral part of health care. Specialists of nursing informatics are rapidly taking a significant role in the overall clinical information system and making an impact on the quality of health care and patient health outcomes. Methods of nursing documentation affect nursing practice. The process aiming to move from “paper” documentation to the “computer” documentation requires both financial and human resources and, also, innovative solutions. Abundance and diversity of clinical information and swift decisionmaking affect the nurses’ readiness to use nursing informatics advantages. Nursing values also influence applicability of information technologies in nursing practice. Therefore, it is important to analyze incentive and interfering factors which have an impact on nurses to use nursing information technology in practice. The nursing managers play a huge roll in this process, and their understanding of information technology affects the implementation of nursing informatics. Nursing informatics is the science of the 21st century and a new nursing specialization which has great potential to improve the quality of health care.
