Abstract

Summary
The main factor, destroying steel and wooden constructions in fire, is very high temperatures. Unprotected by fire protective coatings building from steel constructions may very quickly to collapse, and in unprotected wooden constructions building, the fire may very quickly spread and block all people’s evacuation routes. Legislation in Lithuania defines that it is necessary to protect by fire protective coatings certain steel and wooden constructions of public buildings. However, these materials are exposed to fire, and during the fire, together with the smoke, toxic substances are disposed, which can have serious consequences for human health, make people evacuation and fire-fighters work much complicated.
Steel and wooden construction’s fire protective coatings used in Lithuania were selected for investigation of disposed hazardous combustion materials. Investigations were carried out in accordance with widely in Europe used procedure for the determination the reaction to the fire of building products according to LST EN 13823:2010 standard. In this study, the results and conclusions are submitted which protective materials are more or less dangerous to human’s health.
