Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify new cases of child disability incidence in 60 small administrative units of the country in the period of 2007-2011, visualizing these parameters in a map. Methods. The primary information of new child disbilities cases during period 2007-2011 was obtained from Disability Assesment Service under the Ministry Of Social Security and Labour. Data about population was taken from the Lithuanian Department of Statistics Indicators database. Age adjustiments was calculated using Winpepi software. The data mapped using Map Viewer7 program. Results. Comparing the overall age-standardized rates per 10000 children of child disability showed big differences in the small administrative units of Lithuania. In some municipalities: Utena, Ignalina, Molėtai, Telšiai and Pagėgiai, in 2007-2011 period was registered a particularly high rates of child disability. Lowest rates per 10000 children of child‘s disability cases were observed in southeastern part of the country. Comparing age-standardized disability incidence per 10000 children by gender, was noticed, that a maximum rates of child disabilities in 0-17 boys group was located in Telšiai, Utena, Molėtai and Pagėgiai municipalities. Also, high boys new disability cases was identified in the northern and southwest part of Lithuania. Lowest rates per 10000 children of boys disability incidence was observed in southeastern part of Lithuania. The incidence of disability among 0-17 years old girls showed that the highest incidence of initial disability was found in Utena, Ignalina, Molėtai, Telšiai and Pagėgiai municipalities. Lowest rates per 10000 children – in southeastern part of Lithuania. Conclusions. The highest age-standardized rates of new child disability cases in the period 2007-2011 was found in Utena, Ignalina, Molėtai, Telšiai and Pagėgiai municipalities. Most of the boys, whom disability was determine for the first time, was found in Telšiai, Utena, Molėtai and Pagėgiai municipalities, comparing girls in Telšiai, Ignalina, Utena, Molėtai and Pagėgiai municipalities.
