Abstract

Summary
The aim of the study is to examine the causes of hospitalization on hemodialysis patients and the frequency of comorbidity.  The research was carried out in Klaipeda university hospital  in January 2010 – April 2011 period. We have studied 53 patients with end-stage renal failure and treated with chronic hemodialysis , 27 (51,9 %) men and 26 (48,1 %) women. The average age of the patients was 55 years (range 21 – 83 years).
Summarizing research results it can be stated that most frequent causes of hospitalization of hemodialysis patients in Klaipeda university hospital are bone fractures (19 %) and infectious (19 %). The most frequent causes of comorbidity of hemodialysis patients are cardiovascular pathology, which are set out in 33 ( 62 %) hemodialysis patients. It is also a frequent comorbidity of respiratory system disease, which are set out in 18 (35%) hemodialysis patients. Rarer – the digestive tract (17 %), neurological (7%) and reumatological (7%) pathology.
