Abstract

Radiation therapy is common standard treatment method for treatment of central nervous system (CNS) malignancies. The risk associated with this therapeutic modality is neurotoxicity. The literature reviews the mechanisms of radiation induced failure of neurogenesis. Cranial radiation therapy is associated with a progressive decline in cognitive function, prominently memory, specifically in terms of short-term memory formation and recall.
Implementation of advanced radiation therapy techniques in to the clinical praxis allows potential therapeutic interventions for critical structure sparing.
